Qualification: Central YMCA Level 3, Award in Personal Training
Course Content
This qualification covers all of the knowledge and skills you will need to become a Personal Trainer, over a period of 18 weeks. This Personal Trainer course will teach you:
Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
Delivering personal training sessions
Programming personal training with clients (including client lifestyle and fitness testing and assessment)
Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme
Route to Qualification and Assessment Methods
Step 1
You will be required to attend a two day workshop which will cover the nutritional elements of the personal trainers award. The workshop will cover:
Applying the principles of nutrition of a physical activity programme
On week 10 of your course you will be required to complete one multiple choice theory exam (70% pass) and hand in nutrition case study
Step 2
You will then undertake 4 weeks home study based work to cover the modules:
Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
Step 3
You will be required to attend five workshops which will be spread over two weekends to allow you to fully absorb the theoretical content and practice the practical elements of the advanced instructor course. The workshops will cover:
Delivering personal training sessions
Programming personal training with clients
Client lifestyle and fitness testing and assessment
On week 11 of your course you will complete one multiple choice anatomy and physiology theory exam (70% pass)
Step 4
Final Assessment (Week 18). This assessment will last approximately 90 minutes and will be observed directly by one of our assessors. Assessments will include:
Undertaking a variety of physical measurements from your client and correctly reporting the data
Undertaking a variety of training approaches (cardiovascular and resistance training) with your client
Submission of 12 week case study and VIVA (professional discussion)

As a student of Distinction Fitness and Education you will receive tutor help throughout the duration of your studies.
Pre-requisites
You will be required to have already completed and passed a Certificate in Fitness Instructing, Level 2 qualification. You will also need to be over 16.

This qualification is worth 20 points with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)
