British Sign Language

Deaf Direct will provide Deaf Awareness training sessions at oxford Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre for anyone who works with Deaf people and anyone who wants to learn or know more about deafness. At this centre we also offer British Sign Language (BSL) Levels 1, 2 and 3 and are accredited by Signature, the awarding body. These courses are a fun way of learning the language, with the possibility of using it in a professional capacity, such as becoming a sign language interpreter.

By learning at the centre, everyone can become involved in the social events by being part of the Oxford Deaf Club, Hard of Hearing Club, Deaf Church and the Oxford Deaf Children’s Society. All these clubs are based at the Oxford Centre, This additional social aspects is an invaluable learning experience that cannot be found elsewhere. For the more advanced candidates who want to experience a rich BSL environment, it might be possible to arrange a work placement.
